Assynt rescue team's jubilee tree is symbol of 'hope and optimism'

Assynt Mountain Rescue Team held a special tree planting ceremony at Inchnadamph car park yesterday, attended by Sutherland Lord-Lieutenant Major General Patrick Marriott.

The team was one of 350 “inspiring organisations" across the UK to be selected to receive the gift of a tree by organisers of last year's Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

Some members of the 30-strong team were unable to attend the tree planting ceremony so a full team photo was taken at a training session last weekend.

The trees were part of a 21-metre high “living sculpture” erected outside Buckingham Palace and which formed the centrepiece of celebrations.

Lord-Lieutenant Patrick Marriott officially presented the tree at yesterday’s ceremony which was also attended by local people.
