Ardgay pensioner's five peaks climb for senior citizens

A SUTHERLAND pensioner has climbed four peaks in a fundraising challenge on behalf of the Highland Senior Citizens Network (HSCN).

Seventy-five-year old David Hannah, Ardgay, undertook the sponsored ascents during June, July and August.

He conquered the 301 metre-high Maol Chalaisgeig (Ullapool Hill); Dun Caan on Raasay (444m); Heabhal on Barra (384m) as well as the distinctive, twin-peaked Carn Chuinneag, which rises out of Glen Calvie.

Mr Hannah climbed both peaks of Carn Chuinneag, which reach to 830m and 838m.

He received sponsorship from across the globe and raised £200.

“A big thank-you to everyone who sponsored my efforts, from Ardgay, Bonar Bridge and many other places in the world including the USA and Australia,” he said.

“I managed to raise more than £200. A fantastic amount given this year’s circumstances.”

HSCN is a Highland-wide network of local voices, joined to represent the interests of the 77,000 or so people of the Highlands who are aged over 55.

The network works with members to identify issue that impact their wellbeing and have been successfully campaigning on these issues for almost 25 years.

HSCN also undertakes research projects to provide evidence for change and inform public sector bodies.

The group’s 2021 programme of meetings and events is currently on hold due to Covid.
