Anders Holch Povlsen firm Wildland Ltd submits plans for conversion of former guesthouse at Tongue

A former guesthouse in a north Sutherland community could be converted into self-contained units.

Planning permission is being sought for the conversion of Tigh nan Ubhal, located in the heart of Tongue on the North Coast 500 tourist route.

Behind the project is Wildland Ltd, the conservation and ecotourism company owned by Danish entrepreneur and local landowner Anders Holch Povlsen.

Tigh nan Ubhal was run as a guesthouse by Jimmy and Angela Beattie before being put on the market. According to Right Move, the substantial property changed hands on March 29 for £330,000.

Plans lodged with Highland Council show that Wildland Ltd is proposing to extensively redesign the interior of the stone building into “estate accommodation”. It is hoped to create five self-contained units comprising a bedroom, bathroom, living space, and kitchen.

All existing uPVC windows would be replaced with new timber sash and case or casement windows.

An existing uPVC porch would be replaced with a new structure comprising a stone base and timber clad walls with a slate roof. A lean-to would also be removed to make way for a new extension, and a new outbuilding is proposed to replace an existing shed. There are five parking spaces associated with the property, and it is not proposed to create more.

Mr Povlsen owns the Ben Loyal, Braesgill, Hope, Eriboll, Polla, Kinloch, and Strathmore estates in Sutherland.
