Singer songwriter Kathryn Joseph - a regular visitor to her mum’s house in Golspie - won the 2015 Scottish Album of the Year (SAY) award last night.

Kathryn, who accompanies herself on piano, received the prestigious award for her album “'Bones You Have Thrown Me, And Blood I've Spilled.”

She also collected a first prize of £20,000.

Kathryn, the eldest daughter of Liz Sawers of Main Street, Golspie, had previously said that she never imagined she could win the award.

Her album was judged the "most outstanding" Scottish album released between January 2014 and March 2015.

Artists on the shortlist included Belle and Sebastian, Paolo Nutini and Paws.

The award was developed by the Scottish Music Industry Association in partnership with Creative Scotland.

Kathryn, who lives in Aberdeen, broke down in tears as she accepted the honour, and said: “Thank you to everyone. First of all, all the others who were on the shortlist should have won. I honestly can’t believe it.”

She thanked her percussionist Marcus Mackay, who is from Inverness and plays with her on the album, adding: “Thank you the most to Marcus because I am a nightmare and he managed to make that beautiful.”
