Dementia

Dementia Friends Scotland information session at Armadale Hall tomorrow (Friday) from 2pm. Learn a little bit about what it’s like to live with dementia and the small things you can do to help people affected. Tea and coffee. Tel: 07818 538 683.

Concert

Concert in Rosehall Church of Scotland tomorrow (Friday) from 7.30pm. Lairg Gaelic Community Choir and other artists. Entry by donation. All welcome.

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 7

Craft Fair

Craft Fair at Dornoch Community Centre on Saturday 10am-3pm. Up to 20 crafters. Tea/coffee. In aid of the Meadows Care Home.

Foraging Workshop

Foraging workshop with Emma Armstrong near Achness Hotel, Rosehall, on Saturday 10am-noon. A Lairg and District Learning Centre event. Book via Eventbrite or contact the centre directly on 01549 402050.

Talk

Talk at Timespan Museum and Arts Centre on Saturday 11am-1pm. Historian Esther McDonald will give a slide presentation on the history and development of the crofting township of Gartymore.

Guitar Concert

Guitar concert at Durness Village Hall on Saturday 1.30pm-2.45pm. Guitar music from across the globe, featuring solos, duos, a new work for four guitars and a little flamenco.

SUNDAY, OCTOBER 8

BIG BRUNCH

The Kyle of Sutherland Development Trust is holding its annual Big Brunch for Challenge Poverty Week Scotland at Bonar Bridge Community Hall on Sunday 11am-1pm. Go along and enjoy scrambled eggs, bacon, sausages and hash bowns followed by a selection of pastries, fresh juice, tea or coffee. Free of charge. All welcome and no booking needed.

Dornoch and District Christian Fellowship Cafe Church on Sunday from 11am at Dornoch Community Centre (Social Club).

MONDAY, OCTOBER 9

SINGING KETTLE

Artie’s Singing Kettle at Brora Rangers Social Club on Monday from 11am. Dress up in Halloween costumes for the singalong.

Walk and Talk

Golspie Bothy hour-long walk and talk on Monday from 2pm. Meet at Golspie Ford. Transport available to and from the meeting place. Contact 01408 634033 to book a place on the community mini bus.

Also walk and talk on Thursday (October 12) for an hour from 10am. Meet at Littleferry at the furthest car park on your left. Transport as above.

Book Sale

Book sale at Brora Library from Monday at 2pm to Friday at 3pm. Swap your books or give a donation in exchange for as many books as you want. Donations will go to High Life Highland. For more information, email: brora.library@highlifehighland.com

TUESDAY, OCTOBER 10

Children’s Activities

Join the countryside ranger at Ledmore and Migdale Wood on Tuesday 10am-11am for an hour-long story reading and activity session. Suitable for children ages four and up. Book via the High Life Highland booking site or the rangers’ eventbrite page.

Join the countryside ranger at Gearrchoille Wood on Tuesday 1pm-3pm and learn how to create your very own shelter in the woods. A family event for children aged from two upwards. Booking as above.

FAMILY ART

Lairg and District Learning Centre is holding a family art session with Jo at the centre on Tuesday from 3pm-4pm. Learn how to make sock puppets. A pay what you can workshop. Book via eventbrite.

OPERA HIGHLIGHTS

A vibrant new production of Opera Highlights will be performed at Lochinver Village Hall on Tuesday from 7.30pm.

A troupe of talented singers perform in this one-of-a-kind, two-hour show which is is created specifically for Scottish Opera each season.

This production is set at a wedding and the show explores the stories that happen in the margins of this kind of occasion.

The playlist combines a collection of much-loved classics with a treasure trove of lesser-known pieces including music from Verdi’s La traviata, Mozart’s the Magic Flute, and Puccini’s La bohème.

WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 11

COMMUNITY MARKET

Elphin Community Market at Elphin Community Hall on Wednesday 10am-4pm. A wide range of unique local arts and crafts on offer.

WALK

Join in With Tongue Walking Group on Wednesday for a mile-long walk as part of the Scottish Mental Health Arts Festival Highland. Meet at the Kyle Centre, Tongue, at 1pm. The group decides on the day where they are walking to depending on the weather conditions.
