Abandoned in Skye – Staffy dog finds forever home in Reay
A Staffy dog that had been cruelly abandoned when his owner left him behind after moving from Skye has found a new home in Caithness thanks to the Scottish SPCA (SSPCA).
Eddie the Staffy came into the care of the Caithness and Sutherland rehoming centre at Balmore after being found abandoned in October 2022 when his owner moved away from a property in Skye and sadly left him behind.
An SSPCA bulletin stated: "Eddie was rescued and taken to our Caithness centre where our team were ready and waiting to shower him with love and attention.
"A lovely eight-year-old boy, he delighted in being the centre of attention but sometimes struggled with calming himself down. Our team spent some time working on his manners and were thrilled when Eddie was found by Sue and Peter, who were dropping off donations at the centre and spotted him on his walk.
"Never having had a Staffy before, it was love at first sight for the couple who then took Eddie home to be a part of the family."
Eddie now lives an idyllic life by the sea in Reay. He loves his toys, especially his balls, and carries one around every day on his walks before heading home and climbing onto the sofa for a snooze.
The animal rescue and rehoming centre in Caithness and Sutherland started life as a family home and steading. It opened in 1994 following a renovation project which saw buildings converted in to an office, kennels, cattery, small animal room and veterinary area. Providing a refuge for rescue animals across the north of Scotland.
The SSPCA currently has a fundraising challenge called Move it in March that aims to get participants active while helping Scotland's animals.
Move it in March runs across the whole month of March and challenges people to complete 161 miles to match the 161 animals the SSPCA rescue in a single day. That’s just over five miles a day.
The SSPCA says: "We want you to move it your way – whether you choose to walk, swim, cycle, run or do any other activity to reach your target. We kindly ask that, while getting active and completing your distances, you fundraise for the Scottish SPCA and help animals in need.
"Whether you are swimming for our seals, hiking for our hedgehogs, or even canoeing for our cats, the activities you complete and funds you raise will play a huge part in helping our officers rescue animals and give them the care and attention they deserve."
