Traffic returns to normal on A9 at Aviemore after lorry fire disruption
The A9 has reopened after this morning’s incident.A police spokesperson confirmed this afternoon: “The A9 at Aviemore has reopened following a lorry fire.”
“Motorists are thanked for their patience.
The lorry fire had shut the Inverness to Perth road just south of Aviemore, but the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that there were no casualties in the early morning incident
Police and firefighters made their way to the scene after the emergency call at 4.36 am with three appliances from Inverness and Aviemore answering the call.
A spokesman said: “Our crew got there to find the lorry on fire, but it looked worse than it was. It was just a wheel that had caught fire.
“We sent three appliances and they deployed two hose reel jets because it required quite a lot of water to extinguish. They also used an electric saw, an extension ladder and thermal imaging equipment.
The fire service departed the scene at 6.26 am, but police remain at the scene.
The trunk road was closed both ways from Aviemore turn off to the A95, creating a detour via the B9152 Grampian Road through Aviemore and Kincraig.
