Ferry sailings will be cancelled between Ullapool and Stornoway for most of the day amid weather warnings for strong winds.

CalMac's 7am Stornoway to Ullapool is expected to sail as planned, but the 10.30am Ullapool return, 2pm sailing from Stornoway and 5.30pm Ullapool departure were all cancelled at the time of writing.

Tonight's 10.10pm freight sailing from Stornoway is also cancelled, and CalMac has warned that the 2.50am Ullapool departure is "liable to disruption or cancellation at short notice".

In an update at 6.25am, CalMac blamed "adverse weather" for the disruption.

A yellow warning for high winds will come into force across the western and northern Highlands, as well as the Outer Hebrides, Skye, Raasay, the Small Isles, Coll, Tiree and the Northern Isles at 4pm on Thursday.

Met Office forecasters are predicting gusts of up to 75mph in exposed spots.

A Met Office spokesperson said: "A spell of strong winds will affect parts of north and north-west Scotland from Wednesday afternoon until Thursday morning.

"Winds will initially be south or south-easterly, but turn westerly during Thursday morning. Gusts will reach 50-60 mph widely with 65-75mph possible in places, especially around exposed coasts."
