The win belied current league form, with Lochaber coming into the game having lost only one of their opening six matches.

A dominant first-half performance was rewarded with five tries as Ross went into the break 33-5 up.

The second half picked up where the first finished, with Ross adding a further five tries with no reply to earn the bonus point win.

Matt Williams opened his account for this season with four excellent tries; Mike Gordon added two, while Ross Mellis, John Reid and Davie Ross chipped in with one apiece.

Top scorer John Mann continued his rich vein of form bagging nine conversions and a try of his own to take his season’s tally to 100.

Coach John Scott was delighted with the victory.

“This wasn’t just a win – this was a performance,” he said. “We dominated throughout the match and showed a clinical edge in attack that hasn’t been seen so far this season.

“Garioch will be a massive challenge next week but we will train hard through the week and be ready for whatever they have. It’s vital that we build on our victory against Lochaber and start making winning a habit.”

The win moves Ross up to fifth in the league, seven points behind Lochaber but with a game in hand.

This Saturday the team travels to Inverurie to take on second placed Garioch, with Aberdeenshire 2nds visiting Invergordon the week after.
