Lest we forget: Remembrance Sunday commemoration and service at Rosehall
There was a short commemoration at Rosehall War Memorial on Remembrance Sunday led by Lt Col Colin Gilmour, who said prayers for those named on it, writes Carol Gilmour.
Lt Col Gilmour laid a wreath on behalf on the Sutherland Lieutenancy, John Wood on behalf of the British Legion, Shona Paterson on behalf of Creich Community Council and Donald Morrison on behalf of Lairg Masonic Lodge.
Individual crosses were laid by other residents of the parish.
The Remembrance service was held in the Church of Scotland when Anne Gould read out the names of the fallen from the parish while John Wood read Binyon’s words and Adrian Fenn responded with the Kohima epitaph.
Anne Gould read Psalm 23 and a poem by David Harkins was given by Rosemary Logan. Colin Gilmour gave a short address and a collection for the work of the Earl Haig Fund through Poppyscotland raised £150.
On the previous Friday, pupils and teachers from Rosehall Primary School visited the church to hear about the reasons for remembering and to read about those named on the Memorial.
They had painted memorial stones which they then laid at the war Memorial and can be seen in the attached photograph.
