Lest we forget: Remembrance parade and service at Golspie
A Remembrance Sunday parade and service was held in Golspie.
Sutherland Caledonian Pipe Band accompanied the parade to Golspie War Memorial, and the lament was played by Pipe Major Malcolm Paton.
Veterans were joined by Police Scotland, the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, civic groups, Councillor Richard Gale, and children from Golspie Youth Action Project (GYAP).
Eight crew members from HMS Sutherland took part in the parade and service.
Special wreaths were laid by Malachy McRae, Owen Whitehead, Beau McRae, and Maya Whitehead (designed by GYAP) in honour of their grandfather and uncle, Marine Veteran Ross Whitehead, who passed away earlier this year at the age of just 50.
Major Alisdair Miller, president of the Golspie branch of the Royal British Legion Scotland, made a special mention of the animals that went to war, and a purple wreath was laid by Jane Wilson, manager of Highland Wildlife Rescue. The wreath was provided by Maisies Daisies Florists, Brora.
The service had to be cut short due to a medical emergency.
A spokesperson for the Golspie branch, said “Everyone was so understanding when we cut short the service because of a medical emergency.
“A huge thank you to Henrietta Marriott and Lynn Hignett for their prompt action and the level of care they provided. The good news is that the young lady involved is at home and recovering well.”
The spokesperson added: “The crew members from HMS Sutherland were a real credit to their captain, Commander James A H Wallington-Smith RN, and his ship.”
