Kyle of Sutherland Development Trust manager recognised at Scottish Parliament’s 25th anniversary celebration event
David Watson, manager of the Kyle of Sutherland Development Trust, was honoured for his contribution to the local community in Sutherland at an event at Holyrood in Edinburgh to mark the 25th anniversary of the Scottish Parliament.
He received the recognition after being nominated as Caithness, Sutherland and Ross’s ‘local hero’ by constituency MSP Maree Todd.
The event, attended by King Charles, celebrated the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Scottish Parliament and recognised 'local heroes' from across Scotland.
Mrs Todd said: “It was a pleasure to welcome my 'local hero’, David Watson from the Kyle of Sutherland Development Trust, to the Scottish Parliament to mark its 25th anniversary.
“David, and the whole team at the trust, have contributed so much to their local community, and it was a joy to see this recognised during the 25th anniversary celebrations of the Scottish Parliament.”
She added: “Devolution has improved the lives of people in Scotland, creating a fairer and better place to live.
“During the 25 years of the Scottish Parliament, we have seen the introduction of landmark legislation, including the Equal Marriage Bill and the law preventing smoking in enclosed public spaces.
“Under devolution, the SNP Scottish Government has delivered free prescriptions, abolished tuition fees, and rolled out 1,140 hours of free early learning and childcare amongst other initiatives.”
“With the complete powers of independence, we could build on these achievements and further improve the everyday lives of everyone living and working in the Highlands and across Scotland.”
