A FORMER Golspie High School pupil has scooped a top university award.

Carl Anderson (19), from Brora, was presented with the prize for the Most Promising Stage One Built Environment Student at a special ceremony at RGU (Robert Gordon University), Aberdeen.

Carl, who is now in the second year of a BSc in Architectural Technology at RGU’s Scott Sutherland School of Architecture and Built Environment, said: “I am delighted to receive the prize and have thoroughly enjoyed the first stage of the course as it has given a deep insight into the work and planning that goes into each and every building project.

“I’ve found the course very interesting so far, with a great deal of focus on materials and their sustainability.”

Carl had previous experience of the construction industry before he started his degree, having assisted with the renovation of an old stone cottage in Caithness,

He says this has helped him understand many of the concepts and principles of the course.

Architectural technology course leader, Jonathan Scott, said: “Carl has shown great enthusiasm and interest and he has a successful future ahead of him.”
